VA codeshare with SQ to continue

Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines codeshare agreement has received a preliminary tick of approval to extend with the ACCC.

Although for a shorter period than sought, the approval will see a continued partnership on the Australia to Singapore route that was authorised back in 2011 and due to expire this December.

Once the approval is inked, the arrangement will continue for a further five years, despite both airlines requesting a 10 year extension.

The ACCC said in a statement “In light of the ongoing evolution of services between Australia and the United Kingdom and Europe and between Australia and Asia, including Virgin Australia’s proposed expansion of services into Asia, and the dynamic nature of the aviation industry, the ACCC considers it appropriate to review the authorisation earlier than the requested 10 years.”

“For this reason, the ACCC proposes to grant authorisation for five years.”
