Victoria to remove 25km travel limit as part of eased restrictions

The Victorian government has announced a further easing of restrictions since locking down the entire state last month due to COVID-19.

From 11:59pm on Thursday, the state’s 25-kilometre travel limit will be removed and travel between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria will resume.

However, given there have been no COVID cases detected in regional Victoria, Melbournians travelling to the snow this season are required to get tested for the virus within 72 hours of departing for Victoria’s alpine resorts, and receive a negative result.

Two visitors per day (plus dependants) will be permitted to gather inside the home in metro Melbourne under the eased restrictions, and up to five people (plus dependants) in regional Victoria.

Twenty people will be able to gather outside in Melbourne, and 50 in regional Victoria. Masks will continue to be required indoors, but are no longer required outdoors.

In Melbourne, funerals will be able to have up to 75 mourners, and weddings will be allowed now more than 20. Regional Victorian funerals can have 100 mourners, and weddings can have 50 guests.

Gyms will be allowed to open across Melbourne, with density limits and COVID-safe plans in place, and hair and beauty services will be able to operate without masks during service.

The pause on travel from Victoria to New Zealand is also set to end on Thursday, having been extended until 11:59pm (NZT). However, return green flights are currently flying from Melbourne to New Zealand for eligible travellers.

South Australia has eased travel restrictions with regional Victoria, with those who live within 70 kilometres of the border between the two states who have not travelled beyond 70 kilometres into Victoria in the past 14 days no longer required to be tested for COVID or adhere to quarantine requirements.
