Stress less with Concur

Concur, a provider of travel and expense management services and operator of the travel app Tripit has compiled its top 10 tips to help you stress less with business travel.

1. Plan your ancillary travel before you leave – Arranging travel to and from the airport before you leave will let you focus on more important tasks instead of worrying about transfers.

2. Safety first – Know where your valuables are at all times, including your passport. It's also a good idea to scan a copy to your smart device, just in case it should be lost. It also means your office won't receive a call letting them know you are unable to leave the country due to lost documentation!

3. Roaming should only be for your feet – If travelling overseas, make sure your business adjusts / enables data before you go, so as you don't arrive home to a phone bill that rivals your phone number.

4. Don't leave your expenses to the very end – Forgetting or ignoring your expenses while travelling can prove to be both costly and time consuming. Not only does it make it harder for you to track, but it increases the risk of losing receipts, which means lost money and an unhappy accounts department. Using an app, like Concur's ExpenseIt will save you time – and money – allowing you to manage your receipts whilst on the go.

5. Travel for free – Sign up to hotel and airline reward programs if you use the same providers regularly. By doing this, you can benefit from all your business travel. You may even get a free flight or holiday!

6. Always be prepared – Sometimes, business travel jumps out at you from nowhere. To ensure you're always ready-to-go on short notice, keep a bag of toiletries packed and a small travel bag with the necessary clothes required for travel. Ensuring you're well-prepared is key to a successful, stress-free trip

7. Explore – Before you travel, research where you are going, and make sure you take some time – even if it's only an hour – out of your day to explore the area. This means you'll know the hot-spots to visit when you're next there and can take full advantage of what the city has to offer. Exploring also helps you gauge the best restaurants to take clients or business partners, so you'll always be ready to impress.

8. Technology – Apps, like Concur's TripIt, are a life-saver when travelling because they keep everything in one place and can't be easily lost. When on business, use apps to streamline processes and utilise your phone as much as possible in the planning stages, so you always have everything with you.

9. Have no-work zones – Whether it's during plane trips, or after 7pm, make sure you have a place or time where you relax, unwind and allow yourself to enjoy your travel. With international travel, being connected to your emails means you're at risk of working 24/7, so step away from your inbox to ensure you have some time to yourself amidst your busy work schedule

10. Enjoy what you do – The opportunity to go somewhere new is an experience that should never be taken for granted, so enjoy the time you spend travelling for business as much as possible.
