The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa in Fiji is preparing to re-open its doors in February after Cyclone Evan battered the island resort late last year.

Thousands of people were forced to seek refuge when Cyclone Evan hit in December last year. More than 2000 Australians were stranded and many people lost their homes.

The Westin Denarau Island was among hundreds of buildings which were severely damaged by the storm, sustaining extensive damage to all restaurants, bars, pools and roof shingles.

However, staff are now completing the final repairs as management looks to reopen the resort on February 6.

“The resort experienced substantial damage during the cyclone and we have been working around the clock to resume normal operations,” Starwood Hotels and Resorts Fiji managing director Shane Cunning said.

All pools, restaurants, bars and spa are on target for completion, as is a new restaurant to celebrate the reopening of the hotel.
