Airbnb host’s viral warning about “very big, fat” snakes

Snake warning sign

A Reddit user has posted a terrifying tale featuring “very big” and “fat” snakes hanging around their Airbnb.

In a post to r/Australia, Reddit’s forum for “chew[ing] the fat about Australia and Australians”, a user going by the name of penoos (what a name!) posted a message they received from their Airbnb host asking them to bring gum boots due to an “influx” of serpent activity.

“There has been a massive influx of snakes in the area and we are seeing around 1 or 2 every day at the moment,” the host said.

“We have never had this problem before but I think the amount of flooding, rain and subsequently frogs and things for them to feed on has made them come … to higher ground and get very big, fat and breed a lot.

“Hopefully you are not afraid of them.”

Yikes. The host goes on to tell penoos that it is rare for the snakes to come close to the house, which is located in the Blue Mountains, but noted that the little critters were “everywhere”.

“Please do not bring any pets as I do not think they will be safe with the amount of snakes around,” the host continued.

The comments section on the post was full of wholesome responses, with one user calling the snake-infested property an “authentic Aussie experience”.

“I’ve noticed an influx of drop bears lately too. Tough times,” one user said.

Others pointed out how nice it was for the host to let penoos know about their reptilian roomies.

As opposed to… not warning them? We should bloody hope not!

Penoos sent Pedestrian.TV another message from the host, which added that they were seeing a whopping 10 snakes a day at the property.

“Def do not bring any pets. We are sighting at least 10 snakes a day and normally we would not see 3 snakes a year so it is unfathomable at the moment,” the host said.

“There will be snake kits around the house and farm if needed.”

When asked if penoos planned on still visiting the Airbnb, they said they were “up for the adventure” and would “snake it till we make it”.
