CWT rises above challenging economic climate

Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) has reported “solid” financial results for 2015, despite the challenging economic climate, with meetings and events playing a major role.

CWT Meetings & Events organised over 27,500 meetings and events around the world for more than 1.2 million delegates over the course of the year. The division also completed its acquisition of French events agency Ormès in 2015, creating one of the largest agencies for meetings and events in France.

Overall, CWT Meetings & Events saw global growth of 12% for the year, which it said reflects the trend of global companies seeking new opportunities to consolidate, make effective use of their budget spend and improve their meeting and event delegate experience.

Meanwhile, CWT increased its new business sales to US$1.7 billion with its transactions stable at 61.4 million. Overall sales volume reached US$24.2 billion, reflecting a “significant curtailment in travel expenses by energy customers”. Excluding the impact of the energy portfolio, transactions increased by 1.3%.

Meanwhile, its app, CWT To Go, recorded a 62% increase in user registration – a positive outcome for the company after a concerted effort to improve its technology offerings. The app allows customers to book hotels via mobile. The channel saw sales hit $10 million achieving 35k hotel bookings in 2015.

Douglas Anderson, president & CEO of CWT commented: “2015 was a challenging year for the industry overall given the continued sharp fall in energy prices and oil in particular. We nevertheless delivered solid results.”
