Passenger numbers up for Qantas as travellers head OS in droves

Qantas has reported a 6.9 per cent jump in passenger numbers for January as locals flocked to their summer holidays.

Australia’s biggest airline carried 4.48 million passengers in January, up from 4.19 million in the same period a year ago.

The result was driven by the airline’s core international arm reporting a 13.3 per cent rise in passenger numbers, while budget carrier Jetstar’s international business booked a 17.4 per cent jump.

Jetstar Asia reported a 10.6 per cent rise.

Meanwhile, the airline’s main domestic business reported a 5.2 per cent rise in passenger numbers, while Jetstar booked a 1.7 per cent rise.
