The Big Cheese with Carlah Walton

The Big Cheese with Carlah Walton

We chat to the regional director Australia for Tourism Fiji.

The great thing about my job is… promoting such a diverse destination.

The challenge for industry is… convincing companies of the benefits of the value of investing in MICE – delegates/winners/staff all feel a lot more valued.

My greatest achievement is… increasing MICE business to Fiji.

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be… FIJI!!!

I try to relax by… I don’t know how to relax!

I don’t understand why… more companies don’t conference offshore.

My favourite venue is… setting up an “outdoor classroom” for delegates on one of Fiji’s beautiful beaches.  They sit in chairs on the beach and in the water – it’s fun.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… the Lau Group of islands in Fiji

I am scared to death of… spiders!

I can’t live without… SPF 50 – an essential in Fiji!

I really wish I had… olive skin so I didn’t need the SPF 50!

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be… Tony Abbott, Joan Crawford, Gene Hackman and Winston Churchill (he had the best one liners!)

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be… make sure you’re passionate about what you do – if you are, then all the little things that happen with events (and big things!) won’t seem so bad.
