The Big Cheese with Deborah Stretton, Events & Sales Manager, d’Albora Marinas

The great thing about my job is… the view and location in the heart of beautiful Port Stephens.

The challenge for industry is… to get companies to see the benefits of hosting a MICE event within regional areas.

My greatest achievement is… Well my husband would say him however but I would say the event program that I have created over the past decade at d’Albora Marinas Nelson Bay which has increased visitation and the overall visitor experience, creating a fun-filled atmosphere and high profile events.

The biggest thing in MICE this year… aside from Broughtons at the Bay, Port Stephens, will be conferences that include more team-building activities.

I try to relax by… hiding from my kids but they seem to hunt me down.

I don’t understand why… companies don’t utilise regional destinations more for their conferencing and team building event needs.

My favourite venue is… the outlook from a vessel, cruising around the spectacular bays of Port Stephens

I’ve always wanted to travel to… the Mediterranean as I have been told that it reflects a similar outlook to Port Stephens with its clear crystal water, dive locations and white sandy beaches, not to mention the coastal cruising hideaways.

I am scared to death of… going sailing with my husband as he never seems to read the weather charts correctly and we end up in 40 knot winds.

I can’t live without… my independence

I really wish I had… met my husband earlier in life

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be… David Attenborough, Hugh Jackman, Barbara Streisand, Dalai Lama

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be… regardless on what career you choose, just love it! The results will be far greater and more enjoyable!
