Travel industry gets behind ‘Saving Chloe Saxby’

Tragically, 7 year old Chloe Saxby has been diagnosed with an extremely rare, terminal brain disease, called Vanishing White Matter Disease.

The disease has taken Chloe from running around completely healthy, to losing the ability to walk overnight. Next she will lose all of her motor functions, experience a lot of pain, suffering and die at an early age – if the cure is not found in time.

There is hope though, with promising research taking place to stop this disease in its tracks however, the next stage leading to pre-clinical trials is going to come at a cost of approximately $2.6million.

With only 7 cases in Australia and 170 Worldwide there is no funding support and it is left up to the families affected to fund this research.

This is where the members of the travel industry have stepped up, showing support for the “Saving Chloe Saxby” campaign, which was launched on World Rare Disease Day on 29 February.

The campaign has raised $200k in 3 months.

Helloworld Corrimal & Figtree stores have been strong supporters of Saving Chloe Saxby since the start and a number of Flight Centre areas have kindly organised collections at buzz nights.

Perhaps the biggest boost to the campaign came when Sir Richard Branson tweeted, encouraging his 7.7 million followers to support Saving Chloe Saxby in the race against time to cure Vanishing White Matter Disease. This was followed by Branson taking part in the Rainbow Challenge in Virgin Australia’s Sydney office on Friday with members of the Virgin Australia sales team.

This sparked the launch of the Rainbow Challenge which family members of Chloe hope the industry will embrace with its love of travel. The idea is to spread awareness for Saving Chloe Saxby to all corners of the globe.

There has already been a number of travel industry representatives partaking in the rainbow challenge.

Let’s all get behind such a worthy challenge and cause. Download your rainbow here.
