Business takes off in Christchurch

Conventions and Incentives New Zealand (CINZ) is promising plenty of education and entertainment in an exciting environment at its annual conference from September 28 to 30.

“Our theme is Growing Together and next week’s gathering in Christchurch is chance to learn, celebrate and develop as an industry sector,” CINZ chief executive Sue Sullivan said.

“We are pulling out all the stops to make this a fantastic showcase for the new Christchurch, while packing in a full programme of speakers and workshops with valuable networking time.”

“The keynote speakers and workshops reflect our continued emphasis on education.”

More than 120 CINZ members including owners and managers of key venues, catering companies, accommodation providers, activity operators and regional convention bureaux will meet on September 29 and 30 at Vbase’s new Hagley Oval Pavilion.

Christchurch and Canterbury Convention Bureau manager Caroline Blanchfield says hosting the conference in Christchurch is a tremendous boost for the city.

“To have the whole CINZ membership here is a great opportunity to tell everyone we’re back in business. It’s a chance to showcase the new venues we have available right now, and to talk about the future of conferencing in Christchurch,” Sullivan added.

The CINZ Annual Conference begins on Monday evening, September 28 with a welcome at Christchurch’s Transitional Cardboard Cathedral. The restored Isaac Theatre Royal will host the event’s gala dinner on September 29.

Keynote speakers include Claire Smith, Vancouver Convention Centre’s vice president of sales and marketing; René de Monchy, director trade, PR and major events for tourism New Zealand and Roger Wigglesworth, director in the tourism, sectors, regions and cities team in the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

The event will be opened on Tuesday morning by Jacqui Dean MP, Parliamentary Private Secretary for Tourism and for Local Government, who is representing the Minister of Tourism.

Workshops are filling fast and registrations are still open at http://www.cinzannualconference.co.nz.
