Design students were on show at an Ibis mega brand event last week, as Accor challenged them to design uniforms for Ibis staff.

The fashion competition, Style Our Threads, is a first for Australia’s hospitality industry. Accor hopes that front of house Ibis staff will be wearing the new look outfits from early 2013.

Accor Pacific chief operating officer Simon McGrath explained the initiative aimed to set Ibis apart from its competitors and recognize the talents of young Australians.

“When you get that quirkiness, that great young fresh Aussie look there’s no better service in the world… A uniform does that better than any other tool we can imagine,” he said.

Winner Bethany Everitt received a three month mentorship with renowned designer Charlie Brown and one month’s tuition at Academia Italiana Florence Fashion School in Italy.

The Ibis mega brand will see the Ibis, All Seasons and Etap Hotel brands operate under the Ibis name by early 2013 to improve consistency across Accor’s economy brands.
