Hotel Review: Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel
A hotel fit for a princess is exactly what the Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel is.
The hotel’s Thai colonial design reflects a royal heritage and deep-rooted environmental awareness. This property has a unique story, previously a palace which to this day holds the charm and character of the princess that lived there.
The hotel is very regal, but not assuming so you can feel comfortable waltzing around in your casual clothes. Staff were so amazing and tentative.
Located in the city center of Bangkok, Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel is just minutes’ stroll from the Phloenchit BTS station, Central Embassy Shopping Mall and Soi Nana.

Nearby, find yourself in an elegant dining area complete with grand mahogany dining table and seating for 10 guests. The adjoining kitchen is equipped to serve lavish meals for you and your guests. A contemporary interpretation of the Khmer Dynasty period and grand Pimai Temple built in north-east Thailand in the 10th century. Sandstone and marble and accents merge with light creating an earthy, relaxed residential environment. 178 square metres with two bedrooms.
The Royal Pimai Theme Suite was inspired by the grand 10th century Pimai Temple, built during the Khmer Dynasty. Sandstone and marble carved in 10th century motifs is used throughout. Traditional dark wood furnishings in the living room as well as the massive carved headboards in each of the bedrooms add an air of drama. The suite’s molding replicates architectural elements from the temple.
Authentic Thai house style with 190 metres of exotic luxury fashioned on the prosperous Old Kingdom’s Ayudhya period. Features include rich wood paneling, local silks and two bedrooms.
The Ruen Thai Theme Suite, beautifully panelled in wood, evokes the interiors of a Thai house from the prosperous Ayudhya period. Silk covers the beds in both bedrooms, frames the wall of windows in every room and adorns multiple couches and armchairs. A dining table for eight made from a lighter shade of wood typical of the period graces the living room. A private kitchen is complete with a hot water dispenser, refrigerator, coffee machine and microwave, plus all the necessary utensils. A private dressing room provides a serene space for you to get ready in the morning.
Inspired by the summer residence for King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in the 19th century, the main building was later taken to Bangkok where it is now famous as the Vimarn Mek Palace. 190 square metres in European in style, with two bedrooms.
The Suite draws on the architectural elements of the summer palace of King Rama V that embraces both 19th century European and oriental décor.
