IHG gets app-y with it

InterContinental Hotels Group is coming to the Apple Watch party, announcing its IHG Translator App to give travellers on-demand translations all around the world.

The app adopts the most popular features from its mobile predecessor, allowing users to ‘travel like a local’, whatever their choice of device.

By speaking directly into the watch, or selecting from a range of pre-loaded common phrases, travellers will be able to translate from English into 13 different languages.

This means no more fretting over how to ask for the bathroom, or wondering if you’ve ordered the right meal, because users get real-time responses, with translations instantly available on the screen of the device – with phonetic spelling to boot.

Formal, casual and slang settings will also be available.

IHG’s senior VP for digital and voice channels Michael Menis said the app was designed for today’s consumer.

“We are committed to helping travellers make the most of their experience, wherever they are in the world, be it through a personal computer, mobile device or wearable technology,” he said.

“We’re excited to have a version of our IHG Translator App ready for Apple Watch.”

To coincide with the launch of Apple Watch™, IHG is making the IHG Translator App available to all users of the new device free of charge. The IHG Translator App for mobile remains available for download in both the App Store for iPhone and Google Play for Android.
