Conferences secured by Brisbane Marketing working with the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) generated $20 million for the city this financial year.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the 28 business events would bring over 11,000 delegates and create 35,000 delegate days for the city in coming years, also stressing the positive flow-on benefits of this to hospitality and service businesses in Brisbane.

A number of big conferences are scheduled in Brisbane over the next four years, and 2016 looks for science-oriented events with two organisations heading to BCEC to tie in with the World Science Festival Brisbane.

Quirk announced that this is the first time the World Science Festival will be staged outside of New York.

BCEC general manager Bob O’Keeffe said Brisbane’s collaborative approach was key in winning these conferences for the city.

“BCEC has worked with Brisbane Marketing for over two decades on the bids the centre generates to secure these high-yield events for the city,” he said.
