Incentive expectations delve deeper

Solterbeck executive chairman Sue Jackson is encouraging events professionals to stretch the boundaries of incentive travel and incorporate meaningful experiences into incentive programs.

While incentives often focus on rewarding staff for their performance, Jackson maintains that creating memorable experiences are only part of the equation.

Enjoyable experiences must be incorporated to the program, but Jackson believes that staff want more from incentive programs than a short break from the office.

“Incentive trips are about creating loyalty, but there are more important objectives that need to be met,” she told The Nibbler earlier this week.

With research showing most staff want to forge stronger bonds with their employers, she said incentive programs should be created with this in mind.

They should also provide ample opportunities for staff to develop interpersonal relationships with colleagues and focus on career developments for the year ahead, Jackson added.

“Staff don’t only travel on incentives to create memorable experiences. They want something important out of it, and it’s up to event organisers to understand what the brief needs to be,” she said.

Jackson will touch on several key objectives in organising incentive travel at AIME’s educational program later this month. Titled ‘Incentive travel – 1 part logistics, 2 parts behavioural understanding’, it will be held on February 27 at 10.30am.
